Sonam Choden was born in Sumthrang, Ura valley, Bumthang. Her family belongs to the hereditary Ngoe lineage of which Pema Lingpa is a prominent exponent. The family founded the Nyoe foundation and the family monastery can be visited by our guests.
Sonam completed her PhD in Tibetology at the University of Hamburg in Germany and is the first Bhutanese woman to hold such a degree.
Sonam is authorized to introduce our guests into meditation practice and loves everything to do with Buddhism and Buddhist history. Although she keeps pursuing her Academic interests, she guides selected tours focused on pilgrimage, spirituality and religious history. Sonam is also interested in the role of female saints in the history of Bhutan.
