“All the homestays were very different but each one added to our knowledge of Bhutanese culture and cuisine. All our hostesses were strong women of interesting backgrounds and great vision.”

As my friends and I planned our trip to Bhutan and especially as the jet landed in Paro we were a bit skeptical and nervous about spending two weeks with a guide constantly chaperoning us during our culinary tour of Bhutan. We are used to being very independent when traveling and making our own decisions. Upon our arrival we were met by two guides, Jamyang, and Ezu, plus our stellar driver Sochit. After a couple of hours with this fantastic crew our worries melted away and we started our unforgettable journey through the cuisine and curvy roads of Bhutan.

Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable about history, geography and local food – we all love eating, (who doesn’t?)  and sharing the traditional home cooked meals together with JJamyang, Ezu and Sochit made the food even more delicious! We really enjoyed cooking classes lead by local experts; making ping in the Tang Valley was one our favorite experiences. In addition to the great food and drink in the Tang Valley, the wood-fired tubs at our homestay were awesome.

All the homestays were very different but each one added to our knowledge of Bhutanese culture and cuisine. All our hostesses were strong women of interesting backgrounds and great vision. Meeting so many Bhutanese people and hearing their stories was the highlight of the tour for all of us.

We realize now our worries upon arrival were unfounded, as our Bhutanese adventure started much earlier than our touchdown in Paro, it started with our first email to Ulli and Sonam. Both women were very responsive and for months before our arrival they answered our questions and listened to our requests. Ulli and Sonam’s incredible knowledge of Bhutan, along with their goal to share this beautiful country with others, guarantees that their clients will have the most fabulous experience possible in The Land of the Thunder Dragon.

We highly recommend Bhutan Homestay – they are the best. Jeri, Ellen, Jorge and Taylor
